Rolling Mill

NextGen technology for reliable and efficient sustainable solutions

Rolling is classified according to the temperature of the metal rolled. If the temperature of the metal is above its recrystallization temperature, then the process is known as hot rolling. If the temperature of the metal is below its recrystallization temperature, the process is known as cold rolling.

Amtech offers solutions for both hot rolling process and cold rolling process. You have many reasons to explore new avenues for improving productivity, energy efficiency, uptime and reliability. As a leader in motor control solutions, we help you to achieve your objectives through our NextGen technology and domain expertise.

The conventional rolling mills operate either through DC Motor or Slip ring motor. We have successfully executed many projects to improve the production gain and one of them is rolling mill in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India where the existing motor was 1125 kW, 741 RPM, 415 V, 1992 A, slip ring induction motor.

Amtech Electronics Rolling Mill Machine Automation

Solution:

  • Amtech studied the existing equipment and decided to add one more motor so that overall available power to mill can be increased for required production gain.
  • New System: Existing VFD for 3 Stand and added 930 kW motor + VFD for 2 Stand.
  • The VFD is designed to meet the specific challenges faced in mill drive like rapid torque and load changes, cyclic loads and fast reversal as well as braking over a wide speed range.
  • The drive has closed loop flux vector control with encoder which results in the maximum torque and speed regulation ever achieved with variable speed drives, making it possible to control the full torque within a few milliseconds, eliminating possible resonance problems and reducing the impact of load shocks.
  • The regenerated power can be dissipated either in DBR or fed back to mains through regenartive AFC.

Benefits:

  • Increase in production gain by 35 %
  • Utilization of existing motor / starter / cables for 3 stands, resulted in low cost for up-gradation.
  • AC VFDs are more flexible / ease of operation / smooth start / stop without any jerk.
